Introduction

Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground is a safe, efficient location
for assessing inexperienced drivers.
Rob Wilson will oversee the whole assessment process.

How it works

We will be assessing drivers in line with the techniques
used by Rob Wilson. Rob is famous for coaching current F1
drivers and knows exactly what makes a future champion.

Rob works at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in
Leicestershire, in the UK. He uses standard hatchbacks and
works with the driver to set the fastest time possible
around the circuit, the same format he used to select the
drivers for Honda F1's young driver programme.

9 drivers will progress to the final which will take place during 8-9th September at the Pembrey racing circuit in Wales.

This will see drivers again receive instruction and guidance from Rob Wilson while they spend the day testing a Formula BMW car with Raikkonen Robertson Racing.

Three drivers will be present each day. Each driver will spend a FULL day in a championship car tested by Raikkonen Robertson Racing's test driver to make sure they are equal. Drivers will have three sets of new tyres in the afternoon to make sure they do the best job they can.

The whole process will be a test of key skills such as driving ability, communication, stamina, technical understanding, problem solving and the ability to learn.

The panel of judges will choose one winner.

The assessment team

Over the course of the assessment process Rob Wilson and David Fleming will be present at every stage. Peter Windsor will be at the final but will try to get to every assessment day that his schedule allows.

Anthony Hieatt of Raikkonen Robertson Racing will also be judging drivers at the final.

Who can enter?

Anyone can enter but we will be looking for drivers who have
the potential to succeed in Formula 1. We expect any entrant
to have the necessary experience to make the most of this
opportunity.

We expect that most applicants will be experienced karters
or drivers who have been racing at national level.

There is no limit on experience provided you are still an "up and coming" driver!

However, we are willing to consider all entries.

How much does it cost?

Entry costs £6,950 plus UK VAT at 15% payable in advance.

There is no additional fee due if you progress to the final.

Where & when?

Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground

Round 1

All assessment days for the first round of the competition will be held at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground near Leicester in the United Kingdom.

There will be a number of dates for the first round assessments between now and September 2010.

The Final

The assessments for the final round of the competiton will take place at the Pembrey Circuit in Wales on the 6th, 7th and 8th of October 2010.

Round 1

Bruntingthorpe is ideal for safe, consistent driving.

The format for the day

Six drivers will participate each day.

Entrants should arrive at the circuit by 8:45AM. There they will have access to a VIP hospitality area with breakfast, lunch and refreshments all day.

Entrants will be introduced to Grand Prix Shootout staff, Rob Wilson and his coaches.

Peter Windsor will try to be there as often as possible and will address the group at the start of the day. Rob will then present the assessment process, discuss the circuit and give his advice on how to lap it as quickly as possible.

This will be followed by a short Q & A session.

Each driver will be paired with another entrant and one of Rob Wilson's driver coaches for the day.

Driving will go on for the rest of the day: 11:00AM to 5:00PM with a break for lunch from 1:00PM to 2:00PM.

The assessment process

The driving assessment involves driving a FIAT 500 Abarth, with either Rob Wilson or one of his coaches as your passenger. You will spend the whole day with both your driver coach and Rob. Each driver will have the same amount of time with Rob.

The assessment process includes a great deal of training, as Rob works with you to beat a target time, set by him at the start of the day.

Results

Naturally, every driver's assessment must be completed before it can be decided who has made it through to the final.

Drivers will be informed by telephone if they have been successful in reaching the second round, in advance of any official announcement.

The Final

The format for the Final

Finalists must arrive at the circuit at 8:00AM. There they
will have access to a VIP hospitality area with breakfast,

All the action will be filmed for a documentary about Grand
